Some are worldwide famous, some are hidden treasures from, galleries, archives, libraries, collections from all over Europe. Amonst the organisations in Europeana are the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the British Library and Louvre.
Europeana links to 10 million digital objects like:
- Images - paintings, drawings, maps, photos and images of museum objects and texts
- Books, papers, letters diaries, archive documents
- Audio - music and words from cylinders, tape, records and radio broadcasts
- Video - films, news and TV shows
You can use 'My Europeana' to save searches or bookmark things. You can highlight stuff and add it to your own folders.
The current website is a prototype. Europeana Version 1.0 is being developed and will launch in 2010 with links to over 10 million digital objects.
